Spaulding Youth Center Demonstrates Dedication to Trained, Highly-Skilled Employees
October 20, 2015Spaulding Youth Center is committed to providing students and residents with highly-skilled, expertly-trained staff as part of our organization’s mission. This commitment was recently reaffirmed through two recent developments on campus: successful hiring of professional staff to complement existing workforce and providing new, exciting opportunities for existing staff to extend their current qualifications.
NEW STAFF HIRES
Over the summer, fifteen new employees were vetted and hired to begin the new school year. At the top of the most wanted list: an academic teacher for the newly completed classroom and a full-time school psychologist to round out the existing successful staff. Spaulding is pleased to announce the following additions to our professional, qualified staff.
Rebecca Summey, Academic Teacher
Graduating from the University of New Hampshire at Manchester with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Rebecca completed Granite State College’s School of Education Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification program with a New Hampshire teaching certificate with endorsements in General Special Education (K-12) and Elementary Education (K-8). She plans to further her education by completing her Masters in Special Education with a focus in emotional and behavioral disabilities.
Carmen Reisener, School Psychologist
Joining Spaulding Youth Center from the furthest location so far (Alaska), Carmen most recently fulfilled a School Psychologist position serving Pre-K to grade 12 students across three schools in Anchorage. She brings extensive experience in alternative classrooms, including structured learning classroom for children with autism and developmental delays, hard of hearing program, behavior support classroom for children with significant behavior concerns, and highly gifted program. Carmen earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southwest Missouri State University, her M.A. in Community Psychology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a widely published author in her field.
NEW SPAULDING STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Each week, management coordinates staff training for everything from professional development hours to hands-on workshops to help with every day responsibilities. Over the summer, Spaulding management reinforced this dedication to professional development by introducing a new employee benefit: College for America.
With the start of the 2015-2016 school year, Spaulding Youth Center launched a partnership with the nonprofit, College for America to provide affordable opportunity to earn a degree. Part of the 83-year-old Southern New Hampshire University, this accredited, nonprofit degree program is designed specifically for working adults with busy lives. Employees can earn fully accredited Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in fields like Communications, General Studies and Healthcare Management.
“At Spaulding, we are committed to the professional growth and development of our staff. They are the backbone of our organization and the very essence of what makes our campus a special place for our students and residents,” explained Jim Clements, CEO and President of Spaulding Youth Center. “Of our 58 school staff, we have already seen a handful of employees enroll and begin their journey, and are excited to see them succeed in their educational pursuits.”
