Spaulding Youth Center Honors Jack and Marci Williams and Dr. James Manning for their support of the students at Spaulding
October 21, 2013Spaulding Youth Center recently held its 55th Annual Celebration embracing the theme “Reaching New Heights” with illustrations of a banner year. The evening was punctuated with student centered involvement. Several young people welcomed guests as they arrived and gave them each a thank you card handmade by students. An adolescent girl gave a heartwarming keynote address thanking the wonderful staff members at Spaulding who have helped her “come so far” and also sharing her hopes and dreams with the audience. A video was shown that featured students in the Title 1 tutoring reading program proclaiming their new found love of reading since they experienced such success in the program. For the finale guests were given a student made percussion instrument and invited to join a parade of students with lighted torches singing, “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Everyone marched to the school to witness the unveiling of the New School Capital Campaign donor wall.
The evening also included glowing comments from Spaulding Youth Center Treasurer Wally Strauch on the FY13 consolidating audit report and the presentation of several recognitions. Susan Calegari, President and CEO, Spaulding Youth Center and Foundation, Hali Dearborn, newly elected Chair, Spaulding Youth Center Foundation Board of Directors, and Mike Ventura, newly elected Chair, Spaulding Youth Center Board of Trustees presented framed student artwork in the form of two awards that are bestowed annually and a recognition gift to departing Foundation Chair, Jim Clements.
Jack and Marci Williams of Weston, MA, were presented with the ninth annual You’ve Got a Friend Award which recognizes Jack and Marci Williams Endowment for Wednesday’s Child for its long time partnership and dedication. In her remarks, Calegari thanked Mr. and Mrs. Williams for their heartfelt and generous support that has helped fund Spaulding programs, a new school and educational opportunities for children.
James B. Manning, D.D.S. of Brookfield, NH, was presented with the sixth annual Arthur H. Nighswander Community Partner Award. The award recognizes Manning’s volunteerism, expertise and kindness in helping students with their dental care and for supporting the Health Services Department at Spaulding.
Spaulding Youth Center leverages professional expertise to help young people with autism or other developmental and/or behavioral challenges learn the academic and life skills needed to be successful in their homes, schools and communities.
