Chief Financial Officer
August 19, 2024Spaulding Academy & Family Services is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Spaulding is a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing educational, residential, therapeutic and community based programs and services for families, children and youth with neurological, emotional, behavioral, learning or developmental challenges, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and those who have experienced significant trauma, abuse or neglect. We welcome boys and girls from ages 4 to 21 from across New England. Within our intensive therapeutic setting, our staff instills study, social, independent living and vocational skills and an appreciation of learning that helps a student reach his or her full potential.
Established in 1871, Spaulding Academy & Family Services is located in Northfield, NH. Our campus is set on over 500 acres of scenic hilltop, surrounded by woods, fields and mountain vistas. The campus offers a safe, supportive and intensely therapeutic environment to our students and residents.
As a member of the management team, and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the successful candidate must possess a combination of strong communication and supervisory skills, financial management skills, strategic business development skills, as well as the ability to analyze and implement effective financial processes and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and monitoring overall agency as well as departmental budgets, including rate setting with state agencies
- Grant and contract compliance, and risk management
- The CFO is the primary liaison to the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors
- Supervise general accounting activities
- Supervise accounting and finance staff, including regular progress reviews and plans for improvement
- Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
Education &/or Experience Required:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university
- Completion of a master’s degree in finance or accounting at an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Experience at the Chief/Senior Financial Officer level or as a Controller
- Minimum five to seven years of financial experience and management experience with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least 30 staff persons
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with nonprofit finance management is preferred
- At least ten years progressively responsible financial management experience
- Strong leadership, communication and strategic skills are especially important
- Knowledge of Not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, fee for service reimbursements, federal Medicaid and special education rules, and funding requirements and rules of DHHS, DOE and NHDCYF
- Knowledge of Current trends and developments in program funding from DHHS, DOE, DCYF and similar entities in the New England region
- Knowledge of Resources of public and private social service and related agencies
- General office software knowledge, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Preferred experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and general use of databases
- Ability to foster and cultivate business opportunities and partnerships.
- Ability to create and assess financial statements and budget documents
