Bike park and trails

Six sprawling miles of bike trails weave throughout our wooded campus, providing students and residents a serene setting for exercise and adventure. As part of our EChO program, students participating in biking and mountain biking on our trails and in our bike park experience freedom and newfound confidence while developing their balance, spatial awareness and motor coordination — important aspects for overall mobility and independence.

Six sprawling miles of mountain bike adventures

Students typically participate in our biking program at least once or twice a month during the spring, summer and fall. We offer a wildly popular, laminated “EChO Bike License” to students who pass our bike test and demonstrate how to safely ride. Earning their bike license instills a great sense of pride within our students and helps to teach them attainable goal setting.

Our more advanced riders have the option to participate in our “Mud School” program, where students learn the basics of body position and techniques for riding trails, including hovering, cornering, braking and shifting. Our “Mud School” program allows our students to master new skills once they feel comfortable with the basics, allowing them to experience the results of their hard work.

On campus, we have a wide-variety of bikes and wheeled devices with different adaptive features, allowing students of all ability levels to experience this opportunity. For students who are unable to experience the physical freedom of biking, virtual reality biking experiences are made possible by our technology and innovation team, allowing all our students the opportunity to participate in this beloved program.

Our mountain bike park consists of a small dirt pump track, several wooden features known as “stunts,” and two longer “flow trails” in a large open field. Our bike trails span a six-mile network that runs throughout our picturesque campus.
