Excellent care for continued health and wellbeing
At Spaulding, we are committed to providing excellent care to meet the basic, but important needs, of those we serve. Our Health and Wellness Services teams are properly trained and equipped to provide high-quality care and services to ensure the continued health and wellbeing of our on-campus students.

Health support services
The Health Services Department is qualified to treat those with complex medical, neurological, developmental or behavioral needs. The dedicated, centrally located team includes Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who work closely with the campus Primary Care Provider, Medical Director and Health Services Director to provide:
- well-child physicals
- episodic illnesses treatment
- medication management
- medical appointment coordination (including specialists, dental, vision, and hearing)
- neurological and psychological evaluation facilitation
- daily medical maintenance
- nutritional services
- immunizations (when applicable)
- health education classes for the children
Our on-campus Medical Director oversees all medical and psychiatric care of the children in the Residential Program, keeps open lines of communication and initiates consultations with parents, Teachers, Health Services staff, and Clinicians as required, and consults with medical specialists to best meet student needs. In addition, nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide care as needed.
Â
Children are regularly reassessed as needed throughout their time at Spaulding (including annual well-child physicals), and medication is carefully prescribed and adjusted on-campus. Parents and guardians are informed of any recommended changes to their child’s medical care, and consents to treat are always sought (except in emergency situations).
Our staff also receives training on medical administration as well as specific health conditions, such as seizure protocols, emergency medications, etc.

Food services at Spaulding to fit every need
Students at Spaulding Academy are provided daily lunches, and special dietary needs and eating protocols are accommodated by the Food Services Program. Staff are trained to follow and support these requirements, including the use of adaptive utensils and trays. On campus, we work to expand student interest in healthy foods from across cultures and as part of our integrated curriculum. Food services present frequent opportunities for students to try new foods while learning about various cuisine enjoyed around the world.
Preparing a nutritious variety of healthy meals and snacks is an integral part of residential life and the independent living skills program. Each cottage has a fully-equipped kitchen where students learn food preparation skills. Residential students enjoy many of their daily meals together within their individual cottage households.
