Adaptive playground

Spaulding’s campus is home to one of New England’s largest adaptive playgrounds. The 10,308 square-foot space features accessible and adaptive equipment designed for the benefit of children of all abilities.

More than an ordinary playground

Built with the expertise of Spaulding’s Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Teachers, Residential staff and Facilities team, our adaptive playground allows all children the opportunity to play and have fun — further enforcing our belief that all children deserve a childhood. The carefully selected playground equipment helps children to develop balance and motor skills while enjoying social time with their peers — an important aspect of any childhood. The space features a wheelchair-friendly poured rubber surface and an adaptive spinner (called the Inclusive Whirl) and swing among other sensory-friendly equipment.

Amidst a colorful backdrop, a person in a wheelchair, wearing a helmet, joyfully explores an adaptive playground designed for everyone to enjoy outdoor activities.
