Behavioral Services

Our Behavioral Services team, which consists of Clinical Coordinators, Behaviorists, a Registered Behavior Technician and an ABA Residential Mentor, collaborates directly with families, students and their support teams to best strategize an individualized plan.

Practices rooted in learning theory

Our dedicated team of Behaviorists and Behavior Technicians uses an applied behavior analysis (ABA) approach, rooted in learning theory, to support and empower our students. We work closely with each student to assess their unique needs, identifying areas where they may need support with skill development or behavioral challenges. Through evidence-based assessments like the life skill inventory and Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), our team gains a comprehensive understanding of each student’s needs.

Behavioral Services team

Our collaborative Behavioral Services team works directly with students to strategize an individualized plan that allows them to best meet their goals and grow at Spaulding.

Our team benefits from a foundation of behavioral expertise provided by our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). They utilize a function-based approach to address a variety of behavioral difficulties across the home, school, and residential settings. A variety of data is analyzed to ensure data-driven treatment planning and decision-making.

Our Clinical Coordinators are senior leaders that manage the day-to-day aspects of their respective Behavioral, Clinical or Community-Based Program area and provide clinical supervision and direction to other Behavioral Services team members. Spaulding’s Clinical Coordinators ensure that best practices are being used and review and approve treatment plans, approaches and modalities to ensure the best outcomes for those in their care.

Our Behaviorists have specialized knowledge and training in the field of Behaviorism and Applied Behavioral Analysis. They utilize a variety of approaches to help identify student areas that require skill development and assist in conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis to decrease behavioral excesses. Our Behaviorists develop all initial treatment plans and analysis data to ensure a data-driven approach to treatment.

Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, our Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) facilitate the acquisition of academic, communication, social-emotional and daily living skills. Our RBTs provide explicit education and consult with instructional staff to increase a student’s prosocial behaviors and reduce the student’s interfering behaviors. RBTs collect data and monitor a student’s progress. At Spaulding, behavioral support is an ongoing active collaborative process between students and staff.

ABA Residential Mentors are identified residential staff members that receive additional specialized training around data collection, individual student plans and objectives. These individuals are not assigned a specific care assignment, however, they model and run behavioral plans for the other direct care staff.

Behavioral assessments and plans

We conduct thorough functional behavioral assessments to create tailored behavior plans that address the individual needs of each youth. Our team is responsible for monitoring progress, analyzing data related to treatment goals and behavioral incidents, and adjusting strategies as needed. Additionally, we design personalized social stories and desensitization plans to further support students in achieving their goals.
