Our Approach: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
We believe children benefit most from highly skilled treatment rooted in evidence-based practice. Spaulding utilizes these practices, such as PBIS, to proactively promote a positive, safe and supportive learning environment to allow each student to reach their individualized goals. Other evidence-based practices used as part of our clinical approach include cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed therapy, applied behavioral analysis therapy, child-centered play therapy, solution-focused therapy and narrative play therapy.

Therapeutic practices backed by evidence
Clinical Services at Spaulding can be seen in many different methods and settings throughout our campus and day-to-day student life. Spaulding residential and academic areas are therapeutic environments where trauma informed practices are used to assist our students in growing and healing. Clinical Services implements therapeutic practices, such as social-emotional learning skills, into the daily environments of the cottages and school.
Clinical Services also conducts psychosocial assessments for every student in the Residential Program, provides individual counseling, family counseling, therapeutic counseling for individuals with autism, case management and permanency planning for all students and their families. The Clinicians and Permanency Specialist create individual treatment goals for the students and their families to support and overcome the barriers to discharge.
